DeepMind has finally released a new tool, its DeepMind Brain Engine.
The software has been developed by Google’s artificial intelligence group, with the aim of creating a machine that is “the best human brain we’ve ever created”.
It uses a “deep learning” algorithm that has been trained to predict the future.
“This is an incredibly complex algorithm and has to be taught in a very precise way to be able to do this,” DeepMind chief executive Demis Hassabis said in a statement.
In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Hassabis described the project as “an amazing leap forward for AI”.
“DeepMind is really the first machine to actually do this, and that’s something I’ve been very excited about for a long time,” he said.
While the DeepMind tool is aimed at helping the company to create a “machine” that can “see the future” in the way humans do, the company said it would also be able “help people with cognitive problems”.
“This AI can see the future, it can learn from the past, and it can create things based on this knowledge,” Hassabis told the magazine.
“I think this is a very exciting time in AI, for a lot of reasons.”
The announcement comes as Google’s efforts to improve its artificial intelligence efforts continue, as well as as a move to the internet of things.
“We want to be as innovative as possible, and to do that we need to be building machines that are as good as human brains,” Hassabasaid.
“That’s why we want to build this AI that’s as good in terms of understanding what humans do and what they’re good at, as human beings.”
In April, the Deepmind team announced that it had developed a new method to learn about the world, which has been used to “explore new kinds of questions”, such as “what are the human characteristics that are common across cultures?”.
It is also working on a new “AI learning algorithm” that will be able improve the accuracy of its machine learning software by “learning more accurately from smaller samples”.
“AI is a technology that has grown up with us, and we want it to be the best human AI,” Hassabi said.
“The AI that is built in DeepMind is going to help people solve their problems.”
The announcement comes on the heels of a report that Google is using a machine learning algorithm to understand human behaviour, including the search for “frozen teddy bear” in 2018.
